The importance of supplier evaluation

In the ISO 9001:2015 standard there is a requirement for businesses to assess and evaluate new and existing suppliers. Over the years there have been one or two businesses I have been in contact with that do not give this the attention it needs, and excuses are common: "we don't have time" , "I'm not an auditor", In 27years of working in purchasing I've not found the need to".
